God’s act of faith at Christmas is to rely on humankind for the plan to work. Our act of faith is to say ‘yes’.
we confess, God,
that, unlike joseph, we probably wouldn’t have said ‘yes’
that we probably would have scoffed at the question.
we confess that if the plan had relied on us,
it probably would have failed.
we confess that we do not believe the impossible can happen
that we mostly think that this whole idea
has no grounding in reality.
in our defence, though, we have good reason to doubt.
this Christmas, God,
bring the angels that speak to us
rumours of hope
we are willing to be convinced
