left holding the baby

i had a frustrating morning today, for no real reason, and was pretty tetchy when Sue and Henry (who is 7 weeks old) popped in for a quick lunch after a meeting. I’d set aside 30 minutes, but then couldn’t really remember what had seemed so urgent back at the office, so i offered to take Henry while Sue did a couple of quick things… which then turned into a couple of hours of me holding Henry, sitting in the melbourne sunshine, while Sue dashed in and out of shops.

i was just telling my friend Jane how lovely it had been, and how i’d come back much more relaxed and calm, to which she said ‘sometimes at christmas you just have to stop everything and hold the baby’.

perfect.
