a couple of months ago i wrote about the proposed migration legislation being tabled by the government, which would define australia as the one of the least humane nations in terms of its treatment of asylum seekers. today the prime minister had to back down from the legislation in the face of certain defeat.
i have such respect for the courage of the members of the coalition who withstood what must have been immense pressure to indicate that they would vote against the legislation.
there are still many battles to be fought in this whole issue, but thank God humanity and justice prevailed today. this is a good, good thing.
